About the Woman
The woman appears to be a Catholic housewife from the 1950's probably living somewhere in New England. I think she truly believes in her faith because she has her hands together in prayer and is looking right at the priest through the screen instead of staring blankly at the door with her head hung in shame from whatever brought her to the confession booth. She seems to seek forgiveness for something, or perhaps someone has wronged her in some way and she needs help trying to forgive them. Although her face is hidden, she appears to be distraught about whatever it is. Confession can be therapeutic to many, but for some, like me, it merely makes matters worse because now someone else knows whatever secret you have withheld. Confession is probably more helpful to people who believe a higher power is watching over them, and believe if they confess their sins it makes whatever they were hiding not as bad.
